Magdalena Bay – 2021

Magdalena Bay Comondú, Baja California Sur, Mexico

BlueGreen Expeditions is headed to one of the most amazing dive spots in the world, the Mexican Sardine Run! During October and November, a magical event happens in the nutrient rich swirling blue waters off Magdalena Bay where striped marlin gather to hunt on the second largest sardine run in the world. This thrilling underwater action is spectacular. There is an excellent chance of also seeing California sea lions, dolphins, wahoo, pelicans, different species of gulls, boobie birds, frigate birds, shearwaters and even the awe inspiring albatross. While it’s best to snorkel or free dive around the bait balls there will be plenty of scuba diving opportunities on your week long trip with massive schools of fish, turtles and the wreck of a WW1 submarine and the passenger steam ship SS Independence. But wait, there is more! Humpback whales are on the move at this time of year and if we are really lucky, we might even see orcas or blue whales! We will be onboard the Nautilus Gallant Lady. The Gallant Lady is a top of the line 116’ liveaboard which only takes 12 guests. We encourage you to fly in early and take advantage of an underwater photo workshop or a complimentary warm up dive or both!

Malpelo Fauna and Flora Sanctuary Malpelo Island

Malpelo is a remote volcanic island located over 300 miles off the coast of Columbia. It is the largest no fishing zone in the Eastern Tropical Pacific and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The deep water and various ocean currents make this the perfect place for an extraordinary shark population. It is widely acclaimed as one of the top diving sites in the world due to the large aggregates of sharks and pelagic species. Due to the strong ocean currents, this is a destination for experienced divers and all divers must have an Advanced Open Water certification, Nitrox certification and at least 50 logged dives. Massive schools of hammerhead and silky sharks are found here along with Galapagos, white tip, whale sharks, manta and eagle rays, free-swimming moray eels, as well as the reclusive small tooth sand tiger. If you are looking to dive with hundreds of hammerheads and silky sharks you want to join Blue Green Expeditions on this adventure!

Bergen, Norway – 2022

Bergen, Norway Bergen, Norway

Join Blue Green Expeditions for an exciting shore based expedition to Bergen, Norway. This can also be an add on trip prior to the Spitsbergen expedition! The beautiful and historic city of Bergen is often called "The gateway to the fjords". The rugged and beautiful archipelago to the west of the city offers great opportunities for divers. Here the famous Norwegian fjords meet the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, creating a varied underwater world with steep drop offs and canyons, amazing kelp forests, sandy coves and exiting reefs teeming with life. Bergen's history as Norway's most important port city has also resulted in a number of interesting ship wrecks in and around its shipping lanes. Some of the wrecks we can dive are the August Bolten, a German freight ship form WW2. Resting on shelves and caught in cracks are several pieces of war equipment including cannons, trailers, motorbikes and tank engines. Other wrecks include the Helene Jensen, the R56, the Siggen and the Oldenburg. The Oldenburg was built in 1914 and bombed and sunk during WW2. This beautiful steamship is very well preserved and a highlight of our trip. If that isn’t enough, we will be staying at the Panorama Hotel which offers unlimited shore diving at its house reef.
